Different traditions have existed alongside one another for generations, creating a culture that is uniquely Malaysian.

Food is one of the easiest ways to understand Malaysia.

Our food tells stories about migration, trade, history and community.

Nasi lemak, roti canai, laksa, char kuey teow, satay and teh tarik are more than things to eat. They are part of everyday Malaysian life.

And food is often where people connect.

A simple “Jom makan” — let's eat — can bring people together regardless of where they come from.

Perhaps one of the most special things about Malaysia is not something you see in a guidebook.

It is the everyday friendliness.

A neighbour asking “Dah makan?”
A shopkeeper remembering your usual order.
Someone giving you directions even when you didn't ask perfectly.
Friends saying “Jom!” when they want you to join them.

You can visit Malaysia without speaking Malay.

You can live here using English.

But when you learn Malay, you begin to hear more, understand more and participate more.
